Discover the Venice of Holland, Giethoorn and the surroundings and the nature area in a so called whisper boat.
These are open little boats with a silent motor which is electrical driven by a battery, that is why there called whisper boats ("punters").

Without the smell and the noise of a gasmotor the whisper boat is the ideal vehicle to discover the rustic surroundings en it is good for the conservation of the environment.

You may talk out loud in a whisper boat...........

Rental boats: There are 38 boats for rent at Canal touring and boat rental company The little swan ('t Zwaantje) in Giethoorn. Our boats have the nice colour red. The boats admit seats for 4 or 5 adults (depending on weight); there are some familyboats for ± 8 adults, max. 10 persons per boat.
New in 2014: 2 x 10-pers. boat with wheelchairlift, disabled people can drive the boat themselves. Also new 2014: luxury boats with wheel and cushions (6-pers.)


Ofcourse you can also rent a boat just the two of you or alone, the prices are per boat.

You have to stear yourself. You get an explanation of the simple operation of the electrical motor and of the route; with the plan of the route you cannot miss the way "home".
The bottom of the boats are very flat (stability); the water in the canals and the lake is shallow water and are only 1 meter deep; so the boats are very suitable for families with children. It is possible to hire life-jackets for little kids.

The minimum boattrip (time for hire) is 1 hour; you see the most tourist part of Giethoorn (In the highseason from July - September 2012, festive day's and all day s with temperatures above 20ºC the minimum rent is 2 hours).
There are more possibilities: 2, 3, 4 hours or even throughout the day. With a boat you are very flexibel. Further explanations at the boatrental cashdesk.

At all the tours you will pass the little isle in the lake (about half hour from point of departure). You only can get at the isle by boat; this place is very suitable for taking a swim or picknick. The water is very unshallow, only 1 meter deep.



Stearing the boat is with the motorhandle or a stearingwheel. The difference is that you have the wheel in front of you and you don't have to stear in the opposite direction; most people find this easier to handle.
